Autechre
Mixlr 10/2019
When it comes to experimental electronica, there aren’t many acts that can claim to have a legacy as untarnished as that of Autechre. The duo took the music into all kinds of new unexplored terrains when they first appeared back in the nineties, and they have continued to challenge the status quo ever since. Which leads neatly into this playlist, a sizeable collection of electronica that shifts between downtempo and faster paced cuts with panache, demonstrating the broad pallet that Autechre draw from when they’re making music and, of course, listening to it. Listen out for Front 242, Speedy J, The Orb, Joey Beltram’s ‘Psycho Bass’, ‘Xtal’ by Aphex Twin, and deep groovers like Future Sound of London’s ‘Calcium’. This is the sound of the future and the past all at once.
